3 things you may not know about Intense Pulsed Light therapy

The Institute of Dermatologists is a state-of-the-art laser facility offering the best laser care in Dublin. We offer a wide variety of laser services and the most highly trained staff to help you look and feel your best. We also use the most advanced IPL model on the market, Lumenis M22, to deliver dramatically younger-looking skin.

Using light energy to treat irregular pigmentation, age spots, redness, broken blood vessels and enlarged pores, IPL can erase years of skin damage.

Here are three things you may not know about the treatment:
Intense Pulse Light therapy

1. The ideal time to start incorporating an annual or bi-annual IPL treatment into your skincare routine is when discolouration, freckles, age spots, redness or broken veins start to become apparent. When you start is less about age and more related to your skin type and tone, genetics, UV exposure history and smoking history. Some of our patients start in their late teens, some may not need an IPL treatment until well into their forties.

2. IPL is one of the most popular skin rejuvenating treatments, with regular or maintenance sessions minimising UV and age-related pigmentary and vascular changes in the skin while increasing collagen production. The result is a more even skin tone with plumper, smoother and more youthful skin.

3. Unlike lasers, IPL sends out more than one wavelength of pulsating light therefore it can treat a range of skin conditions at the same time. It is a very effective treatment for people suffering with Rosacea as it alleviates uneven skin tone, and dramatically reduces redness caused by broken capillaries (telangiectasiae). Maintenance IPL treatments every couple of years can dramatically decrease or often completely eliminate facial redness once combined with daily use of a Zinc based SPF like @eltamdskincare.
