Dr Emma Tierney

Dr Emma Tierney is a dual-qualified Pharmacist and Consultant Dermatologist on the specialist register of the Irish Medical Council. She was awarded academic and sports scholarships while studying Pharmacy (BPharm) at University College Cork (UCC) where she graduated with a first class honours and following this achieved a Master of Pharmacy (MPharm) with the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI). Dr Tierney then pursued Medicine at the University of Limerick Graduate Entry Medical School (ULGEMS), graduating top of her class and receiving the Gold Medal in Medicine. 

Dr Tierney subsequently undertook a decade of post-graduate training across several Irish hospitals, including five years of higher specialist training in Dermatology with the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland (RCPI). This included formal expert cosmetic training at the Institute of Dermatologists. 

Dr. Tierney has published numerous articles in peer-reviewed medical journals and served as an expert reviewer. She has presented her research at both national and international conferences. 

Her clinical interests include: 

  • Inflammatory skin conditions (acne, rosacea, psoriasis and atopic dermatitis) 
  • Melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancer 
  • Dermatologic surgery 
  • Cosmetic Dermatology 

Dr Tierney is actively involved in medical education and has contributed formally to university medical teaching programmes in addition to acting as clinical tutor for RCPI’s Professional Diploma in Dermatology.
