Brow Lifts

Restore a refreshed, youthful appearance

Brow Lift Surgery, Dublin

Elevate sagging brows, smooth forehead lines, and restore a refreshed, youthful upper facial appearance at the Institute of Dermatologists, with our expert Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon, Mr. Michéal O’Rourke.

What Is A Brow Lift?

A Brow Lift, also known as a Forehead Lift or Brow Rejuvenation, is a surgical procedure that elevates the position of the eyebrows, smooths forehead lines, and restores balance to the upper face. Over time, the natural ageing process, sun exposure, and muscle activity can cause the brows to descend, leading to a tired, heavy, or stern appearance.

By subtly lifting and reshaping the brows, this procedure opens up the eye area, softens deep forehead creases, and restores a more youthful, refreshed look, without changing your natural expression.

Why Consider a Brow Lift?

Over time, the effects of gravity, tension in facial muscles, and loss of skin elasticity cause the brow to descend and the forehead to develop deep lines. A low or drooping brow can also contribute to hooded or droopy upper eyelids. Many patients feel they look tired or older than they feel, a brow lift addresses these concerns directly.

Who Is This Treatment For?

A Brow Lift may be suitable for patients who:

  • Notice drooping or asymmetry of the brows.

  • Have deep horizontal forehead lines or furrows between the brows.

  • Feel that their eyes appear hooded or tired due to brow descent.

  • Wish to rejuvenate the upper face without altering their natural features.

Your consultant will assess your unique anatomy, muscle activity, and aesthetic goals to determine the most suitable approach for you.

How the Procedure Works

A brow lift can be performed via several techniques depending on each patient’s anatomy and goals:

  • Endoscopic brow lift: Small incisions behind the hairline allow the use of a camera and micro-instruments to lift and reposition tissue, with minimal visible scarring.

  • Coronal (open) brow lift: A longer incision along or behind the hairline, lifting the entire forehead skin flap to reposition tissue and remove excess skin.

  • Temporal / lateral brow lift: A limited lift targeting the outer corners of the brow through incisions near the temples, often combined with eyelid surgery.

During surgery, soft tissues may be adjusted, excess skin removed, and muscles repositioned or released. Fixation is done using sutures or anchors to maintain the new brow position.

Benefits of a Brow Lift

  • Elevated, more youthful brow position

  • Smoother forehead lines and reduced frown wrinkles

  • More open-eyed, alert appearance

  • Potential improvement in visual field if brow drooping obstructs vision

Recovery & What to Expect

  • Procedure time: Typically 1–2 hours

  • Anesthesia: Local with sedation or general, depending on complexity

  • Downtime: Bruising and swelling are typical for 1–2 weeks. Many patients return to light activity within this period.

  • Timeline of results: You’ll see early improvement soon after swelling subsides, but final brow position and appearance may take several weeks to months.

Long term: Brow lift results are long-lasting, though natural ageing continues, so brow tissues may gradually descend again over many years.
