#AskID : Prof Niki Ralph about eye treatments

We asked Prof Niki Ralph:

‘Thanks to continued advances in technology there are many ways to address the signs of skin ageing without necessarily undergoing the knife. However it is important to remember that greater than 80% of our wrinkles are caused by UV damage over years, hence it is vital to use a broadspectrum, physical sunscreen every day to prevent further UV damage, skin cancer development and to maintain the benefits from aesthetic procedures such as facial rejuvenation with laser, PRP, Exilis etc.

From our late 20’s we begin to lose collagen at a rate of approximately 1-1.5% per year, which can be higher for women and happens significantly more rapidly during the post menopause years. This results in “dropping/sagging” of the skin which is especially noticeable around the eyes and jawline.

There are many non-invasive treatments to address a variety of skin concerns..

Photofractional Rejuvenation is a combination therapy of IPL photorejuvenation technology and ResurFX® non-ablative fractional laser resurfacing. Photorejuvenation applies pulses (or flashes) of light to target irregular pigmentation commonly known as “age spots/sunspots” and blood vessels responsible for facial redness to improve skin tone. The fractional laser stimulates the production of new collagen and elastin fibers in the deeper layers of the skin to improve skin texture, the appearance of pores, fine lines and wrinkles.

Exilis Ultra 360 is a radiofrequency and ultrasound device which heats the skin and subcutaneous fat to increase collagen production and tighten the skin while reducing excessive subcutaneous fat. It addresses many skin concerns such as wrinkles, skin laxity, sagging brows or jawline, and excessive subcutaneous fat. This treatment is suitable for the entire face and body. It is especially good at treating the delicate skin of the eye area to lift and tighten the skin of the upper eyelid/brow and the thin/creppy skin below the eye. The added benefit which is especially appealing to men or women who don’t use a lot of makeup/concealer etc is that there is no down-time, no knife and it is essentially a lunch-time procedure which feels like a hot stone massage👇

For those interested in filler for overall improved skin texture, tone, lifting/tightening and volume of the skin- Sculptra® is an approved PLLA (Poly L Lactic acid) collagen biostimulating filler. This works gradually over a period of weeks to months, rather than having immediate effect like HA fillers, to stimulate one’s own collagen to create better skin quality, improving skin tone, texture and tightening/lifting of the skin. This type of filler is ideal for men as there is minimal downtime and it does not feminize the male face.
