IPL everything you need to know
IPL is one of the most popular skin rejuvenating treatments at the Institute. As a state-of-the-art laser facility, offering the best laser care in Dublin, we also use the most advanced IPL model on the market, the Lumenis M22, to deliver dramatically younger-looking skin.
Here’s everything you need to know:
What is IPL? Intense Pulsed Light Therapy improves the colour and texture of your skin without surgery. Using light energy to treat irregular pigmentation, age spots, and redness from broken blood vessels , IPL can erase years of sun induced skin damage.
How does it work? The Lumenis M22 allows our highly skilled Cosmetic Nurses to customise the treatment to suit skin types and desired results. Light pulses move through the skin, creating heat and targeting skin imperfections in a controlled way. IPL is a light based therapy that works by targeting structures within the skin such as melanin, blood, and water in collagen with wavelengths of light to break down the structure and improve the appearance of the skin. With each treatment the skin appears visibly improved with a more even skin tone (less redness and brown pigmentation) and by stimulation of collagen and elastic fibres, the skin’s elasticity and strength is improved therefore improving one’s overall appearance.
Who is a suitable candidate? Someone who is concerned with discolouration, freckles, age spots, redness or broken capillaries. Unlike lasers, IPL sends out more than one wavelength of pulsating light therefore it can treat a range of skin conditions at the same time. It is a particularly effective treatment for people suffering with Rosacea as it alleviates uneven skin tone, and dramatically reduces redness caused by broken capillaries (telangiectasiae).
Downtime: This is a ‘lunchtime procedure’ but you may experience some temporary redness or a little swelling immediately afterwards. The redness is usually relatively mild and can easily be covered with a combination of make-up or tinted sunscreen.
Results: Skin will be more even-toned due to reduced pigmentation and redness, this creates a more youthful appearance as the tell-tale signs of ageing are erased.
To maintain these results, we strongly recommend using a broadspectrum, mineral/physical SPF such as ELTA MD Clear all year round. One can expect results to last for years once SPF is used daily.
.
Cost: 4 to 6 treatments are recommended for optimum results, one per month over 4 to 6 months. 4 IPL treatments cost €850.
