The Under-Eye Area Nobody Treats Properly: Why PhilArt Eye Is Different

PhilArt Eye polynucleotide treatment for the under-eye area at Institute of Dermatologists

We often invest in treating the face, but the under eye area is frequently overlooked.

A moisturiser or eye cream may improve hydration, but the delicate skin around the eyes presents unique challenges. It is the thinnest skin on the body, contains less collagen and elastin than the rest of the face, and is one of the first areas to develop fine lines, crepiness and loss of elasticity. As a result, it often requires a different treatment approach.

That is where PhilArt Eye is different.

Unlike many injectable treatments that are adapted for use around the eyes, PhilArt Eye was developed specifically for this delicate anatomical area. It is designed to improve skin quality rather than restore volume, making it an excellent option for patients seeking natural rejuvenation without changing the shape or expression of the face.

What is PhilArt Eye?

PhilArt Eye is a next generation polynucleotide treatment. Polynucleotides are highly purified DNA fragments that act as regenerative biostimulators within the skin. Following precise microinjections into the under eye area, they support the skin's natural repair processes by stimulating fibroblast activity, enhancing collagen and elastin production, improving hydration and reducing oxidative stress.

Rather than masking the signs of ageing, PhilArt Eye works to improve the biological health of the skin itself.

Importantly, it is not a dermal filler. It does not add volume or alter facial contours. Instead, it improves the quality, resilience and elasticity of the under eye skin, helping to soften fine lines, reduce crepiness and restore a smoother, brighter and more refreshed appearance over time.

The result is subtle and patients still look like themselves, but appear healthier, fresher and better rested.

"I want polynucleotides under my eyes, but I cannot miss work."

This is one of the most common questions Professor Caitriona Ryan is asked about PhilArt Eye, and it's an important one.

The amount of downtime depends on the area being treated. When polynucleotides are used on the face or neck, the small injection blebs typically settle within two to four hours, allowing most patients to return to their normal activities the same day.

The under eye area is different. Because the skin is thinner and the treatment is performed more superficially, the small blebs are often more noticeable and can persist for 24 to 48 hours. This is particularly true with the higher concentration treatment protocols that are increasingly used in appropriate patients.

For this reason, we generally recommend scheduling PhilArt Eye before a quieter day, working from home if possible, or ahead of a weekend. Although the visible blebs are temporary, the improvements in skin quality that develop over the following weeks make this a worthwhile trade off for many patients.

As always, our team will advise you on what to expect and help you choose the treatment schedule that best fits your lifestyle.

How to plan around your treatment

Most patients are able to fit PhilArt Eye easily into their schedule with a little forward planning.

The under eye area is more delicate than other areas of the face, so the small injection blebs can remain visible for 24 to 48 hours before settling naturally. If you have an important social event, presentation or photographs planned, we recommend allowing a couple of days between your treatment and the occasion.

Simple measures can also help minimise downtime. Cooling the treated area immediately after treatment helps reduce early swelling and may lessen the likelihood of bruising by temporarily constricting the small blood vessels. Where medically appropriate, we also recommend avoiding omega 3 supplements and anti inflammatory medications, such as ibuprofen, for one week beforehand, as these can increase the risk of bruising.

Most patients return to their usual daily activities immediately, with only the temporary injection blebs visible during the first day or two.

What does PhilArt Eye actually change?

Fine lines and crepiness

By stimulating collagen and elastin production, PhilArt Eye helps improve skin texture and soften fine lines over time.

Skin firmness and elasticity

Improved skin quality and elasticity can leave the under eye area looking smoother, firmer and more refreshed.

Deep, lasting hydration

Polynucleotides enhance the skin's ability to retain moisture, improving hydration and restoring a healthier, more luminous appearance.

Skin quality and resilience

By supporting the skin's natural regenerative processes, PhilArt Eye improves the overall quality of the delicate under eye skin, helping it appear stronger, healthier and better able to withstand the visible effects of ageing.

How does PhilArt Eye compare to the rest of the range?

PhilArt: a high-concentration formula used across the full face, for general collagen stimulation and skin quality.

PhilArt Next: combines polynucleotides with hyaluronic acid for added plumping and hydration, used more broadly across the face, neck and hands.

PhilArt Eye: the only one of the three formulated specifically for the eye area, where skin is thinnest and concerns show first.

Why pair PhilArt Eye with IPL or Excel V?

These treatments complement one another because they address different aspects of skin ageing.

IPL and Excel V improve the complexion by treating redness, pigmentation, sun damage and visible blood vessels, while PhilArt Eye improves the quality, hydration and elasticity of the under eye skin. Together, they deliver a more comprehensive rejuvenation by treating both the appearance of the skin and its underlying quality, rather than focusing on a single concern alone.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is PhilArt Eye the same as filler?

No. PhilArt Eye does not add volume or change shape. It improves skin quality, hydration and elasticity through your own collagen production.

How long does swelling around the eyes last?

It can take up to one to two days, more than other treatment areas. Booking for a Friday evening or Saturday morning, with cooling straight after treatment, helps most people be ready for work by Monday.

How many sessions will I need?

A course of around three sessions, spaced a few weeks apart, is typically recommended, with maintenance every six to twelve months.
