Our approach to skin ageing
As we age, our faces naturally lose subcutaneous fat and other tissues with a resultant loss of facial volume. This leads to hollowing of the cheeks and temples, sagging of the skin, and our expression and smile lines become more apparent. The quality of our skin changes: skin tone becomes uneven, the skin becomes less elastic and loses its softness and radiance.
At the Institute of Dermatologists, we pride ourselves in taking a personalised approach with every patient to address these signs of ageing to achieve a revitalised and youthful but natural look.
All of our anti-wrinkle and dermal filler injections are administered by Consultant Dermatologists only. Please contact your preferred Consultant for an appointment.
Hyaluronic Acid Fillers
Hyaluronic acid fillers have become popular soft tissue filler augmentation agents over the past several years. They have helped revolutionise non-surgical volume enhancement of the face, with a wide range of products now available for use. HA is a naturally occurring substance and an essential component of our facial tissues which declines over time.
Hyaluronic acid fillers can be used to improve many age-related changes:
- Augmenting cheeks to enhance their shape, often restoring youthful fullness
- Adding volume and smoothing out the deep creases that run from the nose to the mouth (called nasolabial folds or laugh lines)
- Plumping thin lips and smoothing out vertical lines around the edges of the lips
- Filling out depressions (hollows) under the eye area
- Making indented scars from acne or chicken pox more even with surrounding skin
- Increasing volume to fill out gauntness in the lower cheek or temple area, which most often occurs due to fat pads shifting beneath the surface of skin.
Various hyaluronic acid fillers are used to address different areas of concern:
- New Vycross technology with Juvederm-Voluma/ Vobella/ Volift/ Volite/ Volux
- Juvederm
- Restylane
- Perlane
Sculptra®
Sculptra® (poly-L-lactic acid) is filler which stimulates new collagen production to give you a very natural and youthful volumising effect. It forms a lattice within the tissue that provides a framework for your body to produce its own collagen.
It is a full-face treatment addressing areas of volume loss in the mid-to-lower face, chin and temples. It is particularly useful for those with pronounced volume loss and for use in men.
Sculptra® is injected over three to four sessions about four to six weeks apart. Maximum results take 6-12 months because your body produces its natural collagen gradually. Results last 18 months or more.
Radiesse
Radiesse is composed of calcium hydroxyapatite, a normal constituent of bone, and is used to restore volume loss in the face and hands. It is placed in the areas of hollowing where bone density is lost over time, such as the temples, cheeks, and jawline.
Hand Rejuvenation
Are your hands your biggest beauty worry?
Do you hate the bulging veins and thinning skin on your hands? Do you want to correct the blotchy discolouration on your hands?
Frequently the focus of cosmetic improvement is the face, but our most evident ageing feature may be our hands. Hand rejuvenation is becoming an increasingly popular minimally-invasive dermatologic procedure. As we age, our hands lose volume and begin to look haggard and bony with protrusion of veins and tendons, thinning skin, poor skin texture and discolouration from sun exposure. Hand rejuvenation can youthen your hands.
Radiesse is approved for Hand Rejuvenation to correct volume loss in the back of hands, reducing the visibility of tendons and veins which age the hands. Radiesse restores volume to the hand while providing smooth, natural-looking results that can be seen immediately and can last up to 1 year.
Complete hand rejuvenation combines volume-replacing dermal filler (typically Radiesse or Voluma) with laser treatments such as IPL to improve blotchy pigmentation or Fractionated Laser to improve texture for optimal results.
