3 things you may not know about Fractionated Lasert
Fractionated laser is a treatment popularised by celebrities such as Charlize Theron and Chelsea Handler, who have talked openly about the transformative results they have enjoyed.
A series of Fractionated Laser treatments can dramatically improve acne scarring, stretch marks and other forms of scarring, also improving skin imperfections such as fine lines, wrinkles, and irregular pigmentation caused by sun damage and ageing.
At the Institute, we often combine different treatment options – including IPL, Microneedling, PRP and Fractionated Laser - for optimal results and the smoothest, rejuvenated complexion possible.
Below are three things you may not know about Fractionated Laser:
1. Fractional laser treatment is a non-invasive treatment that uses a device to deliver a laser beam divided into thousands of microscopic treatment zones that target a fraction of the skin at a time, analogous to a photographic image being enhanced or altered pixel by pixel.
2. There are two main types of laser, ablative and non-ablative. Ablative lasers which mainly target the epidermis, requiring longer downtime and aftercare as they remove layers of tissue on the skin’s surface and stimulate collagen below the surface. Non-ablative lasers are somewhat less aggressive working solely on dermal collagen (the mid-layer) and have shorter down-time but offer similar results over a longer period of time with far less risk. Fractional laser bridges the gap between the two as it works on both the dermal and epidermal layer targeting fine lines & wrinkles, skin pigmentation and improving scarring from acne or other causes.
3. Not all lasers are equal! It matters what laser your therapist is using and how he or she uses it, assessing the optimum intensity for minimal downtime and best results. We use the ResurFX from Lumenis, which is the only true fractional, non-ablative laser, which targets damaged skin with microscopic laser columns that penetrate deep into the dermis stimulating new collagen and elastin formation, resulting in a more radiant and youthful skin.
