#myskincareid: Professor Caitriona Ryan

As part of our #myskincareID series, we asked our team of Consultant Dermatologists to share their personal skincare journey. First up, Prof Caitrtiona Ryan.

After commencing her Dermatology Specialist Training in Ireland, Prof. Ryan completed a dermatology residency and fellowship in Baylor University Medical Centre in Dallas, Texas where she remained for several years on faculty as Vice Chair of the department before returning to Ireland where she is a Consultant in the Institute of Dermatologists and Blackrock Clinic. She has published a textbook on psoriasis and over 70 articles in peer-reviewed medical journals. Her special interests include psoriasis, acne, rosacea and cosmetic dermatology.

Have you had to deal with any skincare issues?

I had persistent acne throughout my teenage years which was treated with multiple courses of antibiotics and birth control until I finally saw a Dermatologist who treated me with Roaccutane and cleared my skin at the age of 20. This was life-changing for me. I also have mild rosacea since my late 20s. I had a course of IPL 5 years ago and have been religious about using a zinc containing sunblock ever since– thanks to this, I have had no recurrence of redness.

What is your skincare regime?

I cleanse morning and evening with Biologique Recherche Lait EV followed by their Lotion P50 PIG400. In the morning I use Revision 30% Vitamin C serum, followed by Revision Truphysical Intellishade. In the evening I use Revision DEJ Night cream, which contains Retinol followed by BR Serum Elastine.I am a great believer in the preventative effect of regular, subtle anti-wrinkle injections every 3 months and also do a course of the biostimulating dermal filler, Sculptra every 2 years to restore facial volume.

What one product has made the most difference to your skin?

Revision Truphysical Intellishade

What product would you never swap?

Biologique Recherche Lotion P50

Favourite cosmetic treatment? Platelet-rich plasma therapy. This has made a dramatic difference to my under-eye area and dry lips.

Best skin-related advice you’ve ever received?

To use a zinc-containing SPF every morning and Retinol every night.
